bullet RCRC Junior Women's Quad - Youth National Championships

June 13, 2010, Congratulations from Bill:

Finishing in the top 10 nationwide, our RCRC junior women's quad took third place in the Petite Final this morning in Cincinatti, Ohio.

According to head coach, Tricia Blocher, the first five boats in the race were almost neck and neck at 1,500 meters. It was an all out sprint to the finish with boats trading leads back and forth the entire way. Four of the boats finished within 5 seconds of each other, with Tempe Junior Crew winning the race with a time of 7:03 and RCRC taking third with a time of 7:09.

The girls are all ecstatic about their finish. They met their pre-regatta goals of improving each race, making the petite finals and beating a time of 7:12. Of the four girls, three will be returning next year. The only senior in the quad, Clair Premzic, is one of three senior RCRC women who have signed Letters Of Intent to row with UC Berkeley this fall.

Other local crews also did well at the regatta with Carl Reinke of Deep Water Rowing in Stocking winning the Men's Youth 1x Petite Final and Capital Crew coming in 5th of the Women's Youth 4+ Grand Final.

Congratulations to the quad, the coaching staff and the entire 2009-2010 RCRC Junior Crew!

RCRC has a women's quad going to U.S. Junior Nationals. The cost for the trip will be approximately $5,000. The Board agreed to contribute $1,000 of club funds and solicited your donations to further offset the costs. The club will provide up to an additional $500 to match your donations.

Club members and friends,

With your support we raised a total of $2,850 towards the upcoming RCRC junior women's quad trip to U.S. Nationals.

The boat is on its way, and racing will start this Thursday. I'll keep you posted on how they do. Below we've uploaded a few pictures of the women at the Southwest Regional Championships, and practicing in the Port.

Thanks again for all your generous contributions. Go RCRC!
