River City Rowing Club (RCRC) is looking for individuals with a fair level of athletic ability, who would like to improve their conditioning through rowing and who welcome the challenges and rewards of this great team sport.
Learn to Row is an annual 3-week program offered by RCRC to introduce the fundamentals of rowing to beginners with no rowing experience. Participants will experience sweep rowing in 8 person shells. Each session consists of lessons in which rowers learn the technique and execution of the rowing stroke, as well as rowing commands, boat handling, and the intricacies of crew dynamics. The course is co-ed and is coached in a well-organized and non-competitive atmosphere.
Because of the limited number of seats available and the dramatic learning curve, participants should register for the session in which they will be able to attend almost all of the practices. Attendance at the first practice is mandatory.
Attendees range in age from 18 into their 60s. Typically the practices are on the water in racing shells – weather may require a practice or two be done on land or in a training barge.
