General Information About Learn To Row (LTR)
|
RCRC is looking for individuals with a fair level of athletic
ability, who would like to improve their conditioning through rowing and
who welcome the challenges and rewards of this great team sport.
The course is co-ed and is coached in a well-organized and non-competitive
atmosphere.
Learn to Row is an annual 3-week program offered by River City
Rowing Club (RCRC) to introduce the fundamentals of rowing to beginners with no rowing experience.
Participants will experience sweep rowing in 8 person shells. Each session consists
of 9 "on the water" classes in which rowers learn the technique
and execution of the rowing stroke, as well as rowing commands, boat
handling, and the intricacies of crew dynamics.
Because of the limited number of seats available and the dramatic learning
curve, participants should register for the session in which they will
be able to attend at least 8 of the 9 practices.
Attendance at the first practice is mandatory.

Beyond Learn To Row |
 |
After LTR, the next step is to become
a member of RCRC and join the Novice Team.
The team offers year-round development and training, access to the club's fleet
of boats and rowing machines, a trailer for boat transport to regattas,
and more.
LTR graduates receive a discount off their first year's membership. In addition to fun and fitness, many on the team compete in regional regattas which offer an exciting competitive outlet for your training. The first regattas that the Novice Team attends are in October, and are open to all team members.
Graduates of LTR form the Novice Masters
Team, a combination of men and women committed to developing their
rowing abilities. Beyond LTR, additional dues are needed to cover the cost membership, coaching, and entry fees for those who sign up for races.
Go to
Masters Teams
to see descriptions of the various RCRC teams.
