photo of Tiffany

At the April Board Meeting on May 7, 2007, the RCRC Board of Directors adopted the membership dues and volunteer requirement for 2007-2008. The letter from Tiffany Knapp, President, River City Rowing Club, to club members summarizing the adopted items is below.

In response to questions regarding the dues proposal, please go to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or download the Print Version.*  For your information, read the dues proposal letter that Tiffany sent to members on April 30, 2007.

Also, for comparison purposes, Tiffany has summarized the program of another local rowing club and the costs associated with it. Download the document* if you are interested in the details.

Fellow RCRC Members,

First off, I’d like to thank you for all of your comments during the dues proposal period. We gained some valuable input from your comments and questions. Partially through this input, we were able to revise the original proposal set forth to the membership (see below). I (and the rest of the Board) also hope that this was an educational experience for you and we hope that everyone better understands what it takes to run the Club.

At Monday’s (5/7/07) Board Meeting, the RCRC Board of Directors adopted the membership dues and volunteer requirement for 2007-2008. A summary is below. Please contact me or another Board member if you would like a more detailed explanation.

Membership Dues:

  • "Regular" Members:  $350
  • Novice Members (those having just completed LTR):  $300
  • Junior Crew Members (paid through the Junior Crew):  $200
  • Boat Storage (1x):  $250
  • Boat Storage (2x):  $350
  • Membership fees, form, and waiver for Regular members are due on July 1st, 2007.
  • Membership renewal and payment of dues will be available online via credit card at http://www.regattacentral.com/index.jsp?tab=clubs. Since RegattaCentral charges us a small fee for this service and for processing credit cards, if you renew through RegattaCentral, Regular membership dues will be $360 to cover this fee.
  • Boat storage fees are due July 1st also. However, if you pay your membership fees by July 1st, you have until September 1st to pay your storage fees.
  • If you require a payment plan, please contact the membership coordinator, Annette Tietz, at rcrc_membership@ yahoo.com, prior to July 1st. Payment plans will be considered for students and others on a limited income on a case-by-case basis.
  • Membership forms will be available on the RCRC website, at the boathouse, and at RegattaCentral by June 1st.

Volunteer Hours:

  • Each member is required to contribute 15 hours of volunteer service annually on Club sponsored activities to assist in the maintenance and advancement of the Club. In lieu of service, members may pay $225 at the time of payment of annual membership dues ($15 per hour x 15 hours). Hours not completed by June 15th, 2008 will be charged to the member at $15 per hour.
  • How’d we arrive at 15 hours/person/ year? Fifteen hours per club member per year is equivalent to the number of hours to employ one (1) person full-time for a year. We have more than enough work to employ one person full-time. In addition, it is slightly more than an average of one hour per month, a reasonable amount of time to contribute to helping RCRC thrive.
  • Keep an eye on the rcrcyahoogroups emails and the website during the coming year for volunteer hour opportunities or ask a Board member or Committee Chair for volunteer hours specifically related to the Committee’s work.
  • For the 2007-2008 membership year, volunteer hours will be counted starting on
June 1, 2007 through June 15, 2008. More information on how the volunteer hours will be tracked will be provided during the next month.

If you would like more information or have any questions about all of the above information, please feel free to email me or the other Board members.

Thanks,
Tiffany
