bullet Volunteer Hours Opportunities

Volunteer activities and the allocation of hours will be coordinated by the Committee Chairs, Board members, and/or their designee. The following is a listing of "approved activities and hours." Additions and/or modifications to the list will be made throughout the year as needed. Any modifications to hours allocated must be approved by the Board.

A sign-in roster must be maintained for all activities. After completion of the activity, the sign-in roster should be submitted to the Membership Committee to be logged. Completed sign-in rosters may be placed in the "Membership" box in the eights boathouse or the information may be e-mailed to Janell Bogue, Membership Chair, at rcrc.membership@gmail.com. If the hours are submitted electronically, the information submitted should be in the same manner as the "Volunteer Hours Sign-In Sheet."

Partial hours may be counted for one hour if 45 minutes or more is worked. For example,
44 min. or less = 0 hours credit; 45 min. or more = 1 hour credit)

Board and Committee Meetings Top of Page

Official meetings of the Board and Committees shall be allocated volunteer hours. The meeting must be chaired by a Board member, Committee Chair(s), and/or their designee. Minutes and a sign-in roster must be maintained and submitted to the Membership Committee. If the hours are submitted electronically, the information submitted should be in the same manner as the "Volunteer Hours Sign-In Sheet."

Hours: 1 meeting (regardless of length) = 1 hour of volunteer credit
Committee Chairs shall automatically be allocated 15 hours of volunteer credit for serving as Chair. Board Members shall automatically be allocated 15 hours of volunteer credit for serving on the Board.

The Facilities Committee assists the Facilities Chair in maintaining and improving the boathouse and associated facilities.

  • General maintenance and/or improvement of boathouse, associated facilities, and/or grounds.
  • Participate in a boathouse facilities work days or dock board replacement work days
  • Build cage for trash bins
  • Build shelves for Kippie Little Kits (red or black launch bags)
  • Paint ramp
  • Install external lights with solar sensitive lights
  • Make 'kush tush' bags for coxswains
  • Erg maintenance
  • Assisting with boat refurbishing
  • Weed control (on land and aquatic weeds)
  • Fix concrete gap in eight’s boathouse
  • Pressure wash outside of eight’s boathouse
  • Organize area behind/beside 4’s house
Hours: 1 hour work = 1 hour of volunteer credit
Communications/Recruiting Top of Page
The Communications/Recruiting Committee assists Communications & Recruiting Chairs in intra club communications and in communications with the public.

  • Creation and production of communication tools, rcrcyahoogroups announcements
  • Organize recruitment events (e.g., Health fairs, Farmer’s markets, Park openings)
  • Development of Newsletter
  • Contributions to Newsletter
  • Maintenance of Club web site
  • Development of communications plan, press releases, media blurbs
  • General club publicity for RCRC LTR, Masters, and Junior Programs
Hours: 1 hour work = 1 hour of volunteer credit
Fundraising Top of Page
The Fundraising Committee assists Fundraising Chair in identifying and implementing fundraising opportunities to raise funds for equipment and boathouse infrastructure, etc.

Approved activities:
  • Annual Auction
    • Planning - invitations, auction item procurement (both silent and live), sponsorship procurements, decorations (planning, procurement), auction item description creation, food
    • Event activities - take tickets at door, room set-up and decorations, silent auction set-up (tables, descriptions, etc.), "Runner" for live auction, money collection, selling raffle tickets
  • Developing/designing RCRC merchandise for sale
  • Selling merchandise at approved events (e.g., Head of the Port)
  • Developing sponsorships with area businesses
  • Applying for non-profit grants
  • Creation of "Buy an Oar" and/or "Buy a Seat" Program – then selling them!
  • Creation of handouts, packets, informational pieces, brochures, etc, to complement fundraising activities
  • Creation of and solicitation of donations/sponsorships for Junior Crew Scholarship Fund
Hours:
  • Auction Chair or Co-Chair = 15 volunteer hours
  • Sell 10 (ten) tickets and 1 (one) item donated = 1 volunteer hour
  • Auction Event planning and activities, 1 hour worked = 1 volunteer hour
  • Sales of merchandise, sponsorships, etc., 1 hour worked = 1 volunteer hour
  • Developing/designing of any project, 1 hour worked = 1 volunteer hour
  • Fundraising information design/creation, 1 hour worked = 1 volunteer hour

The Social Committee assists Social Chair in identifying and organizing social activities for the club.

  • Organization of Monthly Pub Nights
  • Organization of summer Club activities
  • Organization of All-Club Rows

The Membership Committee assists Membership Chair in new membership signups.

  • Track volunteer hours
Hours:
  • Ownership of Yahoogroups distribution list (annual) = 15 volunteer hours
  • Tracking of all Club volunteer hours & communication to club (annual) = 15 volunteer hours
  • Recruitment events, 1 hour worked = 1 volunteer hour
Regatta Top of Page
The Regatta Committee assists Regatta Chair in regatta organization and works at RCRC sponsored regattas, including Head of the Port, Junior Fall Regatta, and Junior Spring League Races.

  • Maintain racing results
  • Work at a race as dock master
  • Work as a race 'official' in a launch, at the start, at the finish
  • Work at a race compiling and posting results
  • Work at a race helping with parking or bridge duty
  • Assist with registration on race day
  • Submit races and race results to calendars and web sites (ex: row2k.com)
  • Create bow numbers for HOPS and Jr. Fall Regatta
  • Coordinate with gear committee on HOPS t-shirts
  • Solicit and organize volunteers for home races
  • Receive and track entry information
  • Assist in creating race schedule
  • Advertise regattas to Sacramento community
  • Communicate with Port, Laborers, City, fire dept, etc. prior to race day
  • Set up course, lane markers on race day
  • Post on web site or provide information to webmaster re: race entry info, starting order, lane assignments, etc.
  • Organize home race calendar (including potentially hosting additional races throughout the year)
Hours: 1 hour worked = 1 volunteer hour
Clothing/Gear Top of Page
The Clothing/Gear Committee assists Clothing Chair in ordering RCRC racing and optional gear, maintaining gear inventory, creating a gear catalog, and working with the webmaster to ensure availability of up-to-date gear order forms
